Thanks to Tomeu Mol-Mas, the piano duo Alter Face, Tomeu and Albert Diaz, performs three pieces in Palma in the Teatre Principal. Tomeu plays Key Jack and the duo performs a new 4-handed version of Mach Sieben and a new piece called Deep Blue. Deep Blue is more an ongoing project than finished work. During the covid break I started programming a framework for 2 players sitting opposite each other like chess players, performing on a controller with 64 knobs. My plan is to give more responsibility to musicians without overwhelming them with too much impro. The players choose a set of eight videos, they can start to process image and sound. For each performance there will be a process of working together on a solution, fitting to the respective concert. In this case, with the permission of the other composers, the videos are related to the other pieces of the concert by François Rossé and Michael Maierhof.

The premiere of Blackjack in 2012 was one of the greatest concert experiences i had so far. I am extremely happy that Musikfabrik plays it again in this impressive location after exactly 10 years.

This is a highlight for me and I am so sad that I cannot be there for the concert. At least I will attend a rehearsal of the LNSO playing my orchestra piece from 2000. It was commissioned by the SWR orchestra for eclat 2001 and performed two times only. So this is the 3rd performance after exactly 20 years (OMG). It’s the #2 of my series of palindromic pieces after Mach Sieben in 1999.

Synaesthesis plays caravan and an older piece from 2000 called “Und Sechs”. This is an early piece I don’t have on my list in the net. It has been played rarely in the last decade. It’s with tape only, no video no live stuff. It was an important piece fro me, where I tried to deal with pop music for the time. It was a commission by Modern Art Sextett and they premiered it in Berlin.

It’s the last piece I redid with Max. So I can happily say goodbye to PD (A great app with very lazy support for Mac unfortunately). After an intense work of 2 years and after an amazing amount of rehearsals made possible by the incredible NADAR ensemble, my new piece “Hide To Show” will be eventually presented in Brugge. In this piece I push everything I was working on in the past to its borders. The piece revolves around hyperreality in its purest form, about everything a musician can do related to music and about trying to sync with the invisible others, trying to hide for showing oneself as an avatar. We had our first rehearsal in 2020, just when corona popped up. We had to wait for a year and during this time, trying to sync with others in isolation became the normal way of communication. It was really scary for me to see that the whole musical world around me was forced to confront impacts of isolation and communication via video, after I just had finished my research about exactly this.
The composition is also a journey into Belgian New Beat (acid) and a research about copying and covering on Youtube by following the history of Ievan Pollka form Russia to Japan. The glorious musicians of Nadar play and sing and dance and act like hell and all this by heart. You should not miss it.

In a concert streamed from YLE Areena in Helsinki, Email Holmström and Hanna Kinnunen played Die Zwei for flute and piano with a very special video processed live during the stream. Thanks to Sami Klemola for organising this. In the stream the live-streaming guys made it possible to see the musicians play the piece in different speeds at the same time without in transparent video layers. It’s great, when the corona restrictions lead to new versions. For sure this one will find its way in a real concert hall one day. I like it very much.

this is maybe the last contemporary music concert before Corona. The trip to Basel was kind of weird already and after my return the lock-down came immediately. The concert was a very special experience. It was very intense in a positive way even though there was not really much audience due to Covid. I will never forget this event. The brave musicians played a great concert and a really amazing version of mimikry.
